Nederlandse Commissie voor Stralingsdosimetrie

Netherlands Commission on Radiation Dosimetry

NCS subcommittee on quality assurance for rotational IMRT

In recent years, rotational IMRT has been rapidly accepted by the radiotherapy community due to the combination of highly conformal treatments and fast treatment delivery. In a large number of institutes in Belgium and the Netherlands rotational IMRT is currently being implemented. However, rotational IMRT is confronting institutes with new issues like dynamic treatment delivery and the problem of accurate dosimetric verification.

The aim of the subcommittee is to produce a report with guidelines for introduction and maintenance of safe and high quality rotational IMRT techniques in clinical practice. The report will be based on the experience present in Belgian and Dutch institutes as well as on available literature.

Topics covered are:

  • overview of equipment and functionality
  • specific machine QA for rotational IMRT
  • methods for monitoring the dynamic behavior of the treatment unit
  • commissioning of treatment planning systems for rotational IMRT
  • methods for dosimetric plan QA
  • relationship between plan properties and dosimetric plan QA

Topics not covered include:

  • QA of static field IMRT
  • treatment planning for rotational IMRT

Members of this NCS subcommittee:

  • Anton Mans (NKI-AVL, Amsterdam, Chairman, a.mans-at-nki.nl])
  • Mark Arends (RIF, Leeuwarden, secretary)
  • Danny Schuring (CZE, Eindhoven)
  • Heidi Lotz (UMCG, Groningen)
  • Jochem Wolthaus (UMC-U, Utrecht)

The NCS lustrum
